Splitwise free plan limits, explained

Splitwise’s free plan lets you add up to 4 expenses a day, according to Splitwise’s own help centre (checked 4 November 2026). Splitwise Pro removes that limit and adds features such as currency conversion and receipt scanning. Splitwise does not publish the price of Pro on its website; the app shows it.

Part of Splitwise alternative

The short answer

Free Splitwise users can add up to 4 expenses each day. That is the only limit on the free plan that Splitwise’s help centre names. Everything else in this guide comes from Splitwise’s own website, help centre and App Store listing; the links are under the article.

What the free plan includes

Splitwise says it is free for iPhone, Android and the web. Its website lists simplifying debts and splitting equally, unequally, by percentage or by shares. Its App Store listing adds offline entry. The free plan covers the core job; the daily limit is what people run into on a busy trip, when meals, tickets and taxis add up to more than 4 expenses in one day.

What Splitwise Pro adds

Splitwise’s help centre and Pro page list these Pro features:

  • Unlimited expenses, with no daily limit
  • Currency conversion at current exchange rates
  • Receipt scanning and itemization
  • Charts and graphs of spending
  • Search through past expenses
  • Default splits for a group
  • Transaction import from a linked card (selected countries only)
  • An ad-free experience and early access to new features

What Splitwise Pro costs

Splitwise’s help centre describes three plans: a monthly subscription for one person, an annual Individual plan and an annual Duo plan for two people. The annual plans include a Trip Pass, which gives the members of one trip group Pro features for 30 days. Neither the help centre nor splitwise.com/pro states a price; both send you to the app.

Splitwise’s US App Store listing shows “Splitwise Pro” in-app purchases from $2.99 to $39.99, without saying which price belongs to which plan. Prices can differ by country, so check the Pro screen in the app (Account, Splitwise Pro) before you subscribe.

Splitwise free and MySharedXP free, side by side

When the free Splitwise plan is enough

If your group adds a few expenses a day and is happy with Splitwise, the free plan may be all you need, and Pro is the simple fix if the limit gets in the way. If you would rather not pay to add expenses, look at an app without a daily limit.

Moving a Splitwise group to MySharedXP

MySharedXP has no limit on expenses on any plan. It reads the spreadsheet Splitwise exports for a group, suggests which column is which and lets you match each name to a member, so each expense keeps its payer and split. Other currencies are converted free at the European Central Bank rate of each expense’s day, and Pro adds receipt scanning without limits, budgets, recurring expenses and insights. MySharedXP is made by a small company in the Netherlands and keeps your data in the EU.
