How to import and export expenses
Bring expenses in from another app or your own spreadsheet, and take a group's expenses out to Excel. Pro imports and exports without limit; on Free and Ad-free, each group has 2 free imports and 1 free export, shared by its members.
Step by step
- To import, open the group, open its menu and choose Import expenses. Pick a CSV or Excel file: an export from this app, from Splitwise, Tricount, Splitser or another app, or your own spreadsheet.
- Check which column is the date, the description, the amount and the payer, and match each name in the file to a member of the group. A file exported from MySharedXP skips this step.
- Every row is checked before anything is saved. Fix the rows that need attention in your file, or leave them out, then tap Import.
- To export, open the group's menu and choose Export expenses. You get an Excel file with the group's open expenses, ready to share or keep.
Good to know
- The import template in the group's menu is free: an empty Excel file with the group's members and categories as dropdowns.
- A file holds at most 200 expenses, and at most 1.5 MB as CSV or 512 KB as Excel. Split a bigger file into smaller ones.
- When a group's free imports or its free export are used, a short rewarded ad in the iOS or Android app allows one more, or Pro removes the limit.
- Every file is checked for viruses before it is read. A refused file comes with a warning; after repeated refused files, importing is paused on the account until support has looked at it.
- Exporting all your account data (Settings) is separate: once a week, on every plan.
